๐๐ก ๐๐ฌ๐ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐พ๐๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐๐ didnโt fail Wayne Leigh at the 12th annual Lynwood Border Leicesters stud on-property flock ram sale on Wednesday, October 26.
He and wife Gail Kananga, Geurie, bid up to $5250 for the top-priced ram and paid an average of $2500 for their draft of six.
Lynwood stud, operated by the Parkes family on the Suntop Road, Wellington, sold 23 of 60 rams for a $1728 average and a Lynwood stud record price of $5250. The sale-topper, a son of Baringa 69/2016 had a yearling weight of 92 kilograms, yearling fat of 5.5 millimetres and a yearling eye muscle depth of 29mm.
Wayne and Gail Leigh are currently running a self-replacing Merino flock of 1500 ewes at Kananga plus another Merino and first-cross flock of 1000 ewes half of which the Merinos are joined to Border Leicester rams and the first-cross to Poll Dorsets. They gain strong support in the saleyards for there first and second-cross lambs.
Losing bidder of the top-priced ram, Neil and Sam Frogley, Rosebank, Suntop, paid an average $1875 for two rams topping at $2250.
Murray Wykes, Mount Top, Euchareena, bought eight rams averaging $1531 ($1750 top) on behalf of the Wykes family partnership who run an extensive Merino flock, and a first-cross flock enterprise.
Long-time buyers, Mr Wykes said his family had been using Lynwood rams for many years. โLynwood breed very good rams that do well for us, so we keep returning,โ he said.
They will join these rams to 2000 Merino ewes that are now running on a recently purchased new property in the Euchareena district to produce first-cross progeny.
Robert Yeo, Mindawanda, in Wellingtonโs north, bought two rams at $1500 each.
The sale was conducted by Peter Milling and Company, Wellington and Dubbo with Tom Pollard and John Hyland sharing auctioneering duties.ย
